ORIGIN

Peru is major coffee producing country in South America flanked by the mighty Andes which runs the length of the country. Benefitting from high elevations, good rainfall and rich biodiversity, its thriving coffee sector is well established and continues to support the livelihoods of millions of smallholder producers. In addition, the country’s lush highlands and good heirloom varieties offer the potential for growers to overcome the obstacles of limited infrastructure and market access as quality, production and demand increases.

Sourced through our exporting partners at Falcon Coffees Peru, the 20-plus-strong team has built a sourcing platform that revolves around two northern warehouses—Jaén and Moyobamba—which works directly with more than 500 smallholder producers and eight cooperatives across botgh regions.

PRODUCER

This coffee is grown by smallholder producers at elevations between 1200 – 1400 masl and constitutes a regional-grade lot at that is sourced from Falcon’s Moyobamba hub. Parchment is purchased at the farm gate through quality-differentiated prices with premiums paid to farmer based on quality score. Falcon Specialty also run in-depth training workshops and provide ongoing agronomy support to producers while the quality control team are able to monitor milling in real time, analyse and cup each processed lot before export.

This year, a three-year Soil Health Initiative across 600 farms in San Martín pairs rigorous soil and carbon diagnostics with hands-on guidance in precise fertiliser use, composting, wastewater treatment and conservation practices. Detailed technical guides and personalised soil analyses underpin a programme that is already delivering richer soils, lower input costs, reduced on-farm emissions and renewed biodiversity. As a result, prodcuers are better equipped with the right tools and enjoy greater access to knowledge so that they can be paid higher premiums for their exceptional coffees.
