We are looking for a part-time Roast Assistant to join our team.

This is an exciting role for somebody who wishes to further their professional development and gain valuable experience and knowledge in all aspects of a growing specialty coffee roastery. You will be responsible for production roasting on our trusty Giesen W15, assisting with quality control procedures as well as equipment maintenance, cleaning and general production tasks. Experience in roasting is not necessary but a positive can-do attitude, desire to learn and interest in the world of coffee science is essential!

Working hours: Part time (Initially three days: Monday – Wednesday)

Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate roasting machinery and Cropster roast profile software
  • Monitor and adjust roast settings when necessary to accurately, and consistently, replicate a roast profile
  • Evaluate roasts from a sensory and technical perspective
  • Accurately detect green bean and roast defects
  • Perform quality control tests including moisture content, density, roast degree and green coffee defect counts
  • Sample roasting on the IKAWA
  • Have the physical ability to safely move coffee sacks (up to 70kgs)
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills.
