ORIGIN
Coffee production in Brazil is responsible for more than one third of all coffee cultivated worldwide. The country produces a staggering amount – approximately 60 million bags annually – and more than five million people are directly employed in the cultivation, harvesting or processing of coffee in the country. Minas Gerais is the heart of Brazil’s coffee production and the single largest coffee-producing state in the world, accounting for nearly 50% of the nation’s total production. The region’s diverse microclimates, relatively high altitudes, and fertile soil create ideal conditions for growing quality C. Arabica and Canephora (Robusta) beans.
In the western part of the state of Minas Gerais, in the heart of Alto Paranaíba, where mountainous terrain meets plains, lies the Campos Altos Region. The territory is situated in the transition zone between the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest biomes, flanked by iconic mountains and the Campos Altos State Park. It has a mountainous landscape, with an average altitude between 700 and 1250 meters and typical forest vegetation. Due to these favourable climatic conditions, the local economy revolves around agriculture – especially coffee farming, which is largely carried out by small and medium-sized traditional producers, like Renato Caetano Domingos.
PRODUCER
This coffee comes from the São João Batista Farm, which is largely planted with the celebrated Yellow Bourbon variety, a cultivar that arrived in the region in 1910. For over 100 years, the Domingos family, owners of the farm, selected the most productive coffee plants, with larger, more vigorous fruits that are resistant to climate and disease. A slow and rigorous process, which led to the flavour and quality of the beans being recognized by European buyers.
Renato Caetano Domingos is the fourth generation of coffee growers in his family and celebrates the achievement and expansion into new markets. “It was a dream to take our coffee abroad, and today it has become a reality. All this is the result of a lot of dedication and work, combined with the strengthening of the strategy to promote the Campos Altos Region, which values the coffee of small producers who invest in artisanal and quality production,” says the producer.
ROAST
Sourced through our importing partners at Xorxios Specialty, we’re delighted to roast this wonderfully rich, creamy and aromatic Yellow Bourbon from Brazil. Omni-roasted to be extracted across the full spectrum of brew methods from immersion, filter to espresso. We have chosen a gentle, long-time roast profile to unlock the sweetness and creamy chocolatey body. You might also find a note of nutty roasted almond and a hint of peachiness in the finish!
